Creativity Exercise

Every year I pick a mythological creature for a year and look for drawings
to insert in my journal. The year I sold my first book was the Year of the Gryphon. Last year was the Year of the Unicorn. This year is the Year of the Mermaid.

We all know of these creatures, beasts, fantasies, but have we ever used
them in our work? Take the first creature that comes to mind and BECOME that creature and create. Are you a dragon? Crunchies sound good – that could be shish kebob or chocolate chip cookies...

OR – include a mythological creature in your next piece of work.

OR – simply think/meditate/journal on what a certain mythological creature
means to YOU, not necessarily to the world at large. Are dragons good or bad? Snake-like or not? Does the phoenix mean doom and pain and fire and ashes or resurrection and determination?

Here’s a fun test of WHICH mythological personality type you are: http://www.llewellyn.com/free/mpq.php
