Creativity Exercise - Core Identity - May 2005

Recently I was talking to Christeen Feehan about defining ourselves and what is our core identity. I've been defining myself as a writer, but I think I need to move on to "author" which means being more "out there" in promotional terms if I want a true full-time-writing status. I've been a daughter, a lover, a paralegal.I'm sure my mother's is "Grandmother/Mother" instead of teacher/librarian/wife nowadays. So what is your core identity? Is it truly you or do you need to reconsider? How does your creativity fit into this identity, an essential part of yourself but not the priority? That is perfectly fine, there should be be niches all along that "line."

Exercise 1: Create an image of yourself. Perhaps do this in a different medium than you usually use - collage?

Exercise 2: If we are what we eat, what's your favorite meal? Perhaps you should treat yourself to it and think about WHY you particularly like those foods. Taste? Memories? Comfort foods?

Affirmation

Every day I am refined and become more unique and my creativity becomes more unique and an expression of myself.
